Strange Fruit

The City of 'brotherly love' strikes again; here is the latest foolishness going on in our streets:

"A murderous epidemic of gun violence and one of the city's major tourist destinations came face to face Saturday when 1) a teenage boy was gunned down just feet from the line at Pat's King of Steaks."

"The 14-year-old victim was riding his bike with a group of friends when a car approached the group from behind. 2) All the boys except Law (victim) moved to the side without a problem, but Law was last to get out of the way. 3) That's when words were exchanged; police said, the driver of the vehicle allegedly pulled a gun and shot Law. Homicide Sgt. Tim Cooney said law had raised his hands and shrugged his shoulders, ("Tykeem was shrugging his shoulders like, "where do you want me to go?" Cooney said) just before being shot."

4) Charles Meyers, 18, allegedly shot the boy for no other reason than 'road rage,'

"The shooting took place in broad daylight shortly after 4 p.m. and an officer with the 3rd District happened to be directly behind Meyer's car...he was in uniform in his person vehicle heading to report for his shift; Meyers was arrested a short distance from the shooting" -5) there were two other people in the car with Meyers.

1) I was actually angered at the mentioning of the famed ‘pat’s king of steaks’ (not even worth capitalizing to me). What relevance does this have to the situation, except the fact that white America wants our foolishness kept in our neck of the woods?

2) This is the attitude we’ve taught our children...”you’ve got the ‘right-of-way’ and you don’t have to rush for NOBODY… make em wait.” We breed disrespect within our children.

3) Again, to be ill-mannered is a norm amongst our youth, so it’s nothing to argue…give back talk; consequently, subjecting themselves to the scaring-‘nigga-moment’

4) “ROAD RAGE”… here we go with the labels, which have become a societal justification for foolishness…I wonder if they’re going to create a pill to combat this new disorder- (road rage).

5) Mass-hysteria, Mass-confusion, Mass-insanity; violence has gone far way from being isolated and individual, and although only ONE person pulled the trigger, the other TWO men did nothing...birds of a feather usually flock together…these guys unity in disharmony…for the greater destruction of the community.

“There are several key issues in our collective desocialization that have contributed to the maldevelopment of contemporary generations of Black people and hinder our ability to reproduce generations capable of mounting the types of resistance and struggle needed for our collective” (taken from “Why Our Children Hate Us”)

- Those words have held my mind in suspension from the moment I read them; its implication is the perfect solution to the ever-present thought of why these last 2 (at least) generations of Black people are what they/we are…is it possible that we’ve become so damaged that we can no longer even bare good fruit? Have we allowed even our blood-line to be tainted...destroying even the possibility; have we doomed ourselves to the constant of strange fruit.

JUST GOT THIS INFO-" Law's four friends moved over, but Law stopped in front of the vehicle, got off his bike and moved to the passenger side of the car, according to police.

"The driver pulled out a handgun, reached across the passenger and fired one shot through the passenger window, striking Tykeem in the chest," said Homicide Sgt. Tim Cooney. The boy staggered onto the sidewalk and died...AND THE SHOOTER WAS WHITE!!!

THIS LIL TIDBIT OF INFO CHANGES THINGS DRASTICALLY, so I'll readdress the points:

1) STILL STANDS!!!

2) NO LONGER APPLIES; obviously this was a racially movtivated act, in which the driver PROBABLY said something to cause the boy to get off the bike and come over.

3)
SEE THE ABOVE!!!

4) ROAD-RAGE = RACIST SON OF A -BEEP!!!

5) THEY WERE ALL RACIST...MASS RACISM!!!

p.s. HAVE YOU GUYS GOTTEN THIS BOOK YET??? If not, I can see about ordering them from the Black & Noble Book Store... which is a WORTHY Black owned business to support...so let's do our part.

Damn...Damn...Damn...
How senseless is that??
Now we have another life lost AND FOR WHAT??? because "he was the last to get out of someone else's way"??

What the hell is this world coming to??

I hate to hear stuff like this!!! It's so sad.

BTW, I still haven't received my book. :-( Hmm... Let me get on the phone with Amazon.

I hate that it's the case, but we're quickly becoming anesthetized to occurrences like this one. They happen so frequently, and we're so used to seeing some sorrowful black mother on the news sobbing "what a good boy he was," that the black community now just chalks this kind of thing up to "the norm." It's tragic, and it’s biblically predicted. I fear for my children as they grow up in this dangerous environment. The animals out there don’t care who you are or what you may have going for you. They’ll deprive the world of your promise on a simple whim. It angers me to the point that I just want them all drawn and quartered.

And you're right, they’ve started giving this disorder a name and perpetuating it, and have begun the campaign to create yet another drug to push on us to combat it. See www.newstarget.com/019418.html

This type of stuff makes my heart ache. One wonders if will ever rise above our circumstance and be the people God intended. From the beginning we have found ways to divide ourselves and disagree. Sadly, we teach our children that madness (if we teach them anything at all) and it perpetuates.

Dang!

Girl, i am so tired of these senseless killings, and i am so afraid for our young boys these days...even when you do raise them right, this what they are faced with.

Sad on so many levels. People just don't have any respect for life or a fear of God.

I don't mean to offend anyone - but I rarely read the paper or watch the news anymore because I'm intently building my "own world" in my head. I'm constantly muttering, writing & posting mantras in order to create the world that i want. Some may say i'm putting my head in the sand, some may say I've discovered The Secret to attracting the Life I desire & deserve. All that to say: my heart goes out to such victims, but I hope more parents & individuals are creating the worlds that they want...
Hugz y'all! Stay UP!

I am so with you Cap. I really am. I feel what you said on so many levels. I am doing similar.

This is so sad. When I read such things I think of my 15 nephews.

YES, man...this stuff is draining, and I wish I could take that approach cap and deep, but I can't...the world is crazy and it's going to stay that way and get worse, unless things change...I know we all set out to do that in our own way.

I HATE listening or watching the news for this very reason...it just gives us more of what we ALREADY know...that the world is INSANE, but still...we've got to live here, so might as well make it better at least in our neck of the woods...which to me is within ourselves, then our homes, then our communities, then our race...and in that order.

WOW! After reading the comments it seems like everyone commented before you posted the new info.

Yes I think it was probably racially motivated.

Miss Snarky Pants said...

Hold up now...when did you add the additional information??

You're right, that it definitely changes things DRASTICALLY!!!

The question is will anybody else acknowlege that??

You must know though that they're gonna try to say something else happened between the two of them BEFORE the person witnessed him being shot.

SIGH

When I heard mention of "road rage" I just knew that the shooter was white at that point. Whites aren't capable of senseless acts of violence...they are 'provoked' via "road rage." Honestly, it won't shock me one bit if this guy gets away with it on some "self-defense" bull based on the fact that the victim was said to have approached the vehicle.

This is just another case of a white person overreacting due to his preconceived notions about Black men.

I don't know what's sadder, the fact that this happened, or the fact that Black folks in this city are going to be more riled up about this than the alarming Black-on-Black murder rate.

Well I'm from South Philly, born & raised there. From ever since I can remember there has always been "tension" between the blacks & whites there. To be honest,straight-up race riots, and I've been there to witness at least one of them in the early 90's. Justmewriting, I'm pretty sure you know what that neighborhood down 9th & Federal is notorious for, being from the area. Your definitely on point with this one, i felt the same way when I read it, and then seen it on tv.

One thing I noticed: The Daily News didn't put his picture on the front of the paper like they do our men.I had to wait until I got home to watch on tv to find out he was white!

We do need to teach our kids some respect though. I'm tired of seeing these down right ignorant children of all colors act like animals.

JustMeWriting said...

southern: yeah...I didn't get that new info til late, which goes right into what hottnikz said about them NOT having his paper on the front page from the START.

ms.b AND k: YES.. I'm sure he'll get off on some bogus racist-protection rights... CRAZY.

I hate these kind of stories. What is the world coming to.

Hey JMW, you know I'm Phillt too, so unfortunately I did hear about this story. Made me sick that someone would do this to a child over NOTHING. It always makes me sick. People, in general, are f***ed up. No respect for life! White, black, asian, hispanic! Crap is happening everywhere. People don't have respect for life. Others, or their own.

*Shakes head no* it is effed up...

Is this real? This is real. Wow... I couldn't justify the boy getting shot no matter what race the shooter/victim was... and they dumb it down to road rage... wow.

Covert agents know that if you don't walk up on someone in their car they are less likely to shoot you.

I am going to have to get this book and you know how I feel about all of these types of subjects.

No one has a right to kill black people and that applies equally to all people committing crimes against black folks.

This is why I spend my time trying to influence change for the better for all of our people because it so painful to me that I may as well do something constructive in response to all of the tragedies that are underming the humanity of all of black america.

Insane...only way to describe it.
