WAKEEEEEEE UPPPPPP!!!!

"Desocialization and Deculturation/Need for Nigga' Consciousness-By Nigga Consciousness I am referring to the internalized inferiority of members of Black cultural group brought about by the internalization of a dehumanized and degraded cultural legacy. The function of desocialization in service of White Domination is to remove you from yourself and your historical image (diassociate) and associate you with a different image which can be manipulated, controlled and oppressed (re-association), allowing them to make us who they want us to be. Dr. Amos N. Wilson calls this the Niggerization of the Afrikan (Falsification of African Consciousness)." ("Why Our Children Hate Us")

A.D.D/A.D.H.D and all other labels used to suppress and stagnate the mental growth of our children. THIS IS A "FICTICIOUS" DISORDER PEOPLE, designed by the oppressive social orders mentioned above. There's NOTHING wrong with our children that good old fashioned PARENTING can't control, but we've allowed them to be lead around by drugs instead, and then given a CHECK for it; paying you to ruin your child’s life...we're selling our babies for a monthly fee. WAKEEEEE UPPPP!

When my youngest son was about 7-years-old, his teacher told me I should have him tested for A.D.D, because he "doesn't pay attention in class!" WHAT? He also added how bright he was and how he seemed to excel in Science and Math, but lacks focus and the ability to follow directions or complete assignments because he's not paying attention. NOW, if my son had been a little white boy, he may have been considered a genius who just couldn't be contained by the structure of the educational system.

I kindly told the teacher, who was a Black Man, that there was NOTHING wrong with my son and if there WERE, I'd have been the one to tell him about it, beings as though I've known him far longer then his little 6 month experience being his teacher. We've got to take responsibility for our children and their behaviors and not allow outsiders to dictate their future.

"White Supremacy seeks to instill a sense of White superiority in all people while concurrently destroying the image and significance of our group's cultural heritage (instilling Black inferiority). Indeed, White Supremacy and culturally/historically authentic Black conscious CANNOT occupy the same space. Therefore, White Supremacy is reliant on the existence of an internalized nigga'consciousness."

WE REALLY HAVE TO WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE; STOP SWALLOWING WHAT'S BEING FEED TO US, ABOUT US AND OUR CHILDREN! HOW CAN SUCH A BACKWARDS SOCIETY TELL YOU WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR CHILD...THINK ABOUT IT! THERE'S AN AGENDA, AND WE'RE GETTING PAID TO PLAY INTO IT! WAKEEEEE UPPPPP!

ADD is a real disease, i've met a couple of kids for whom drugs really helped them focus and do well. It is however, very much misdiagnosed by teachers who don't want to deal with young African American boys and doctors who are indifferent.

Good morning h.c: I too know children who've been 'helped' by those drugs, but helped by who's standards? You're so right about things being misdiagnosed, but not just by teachers, by doctors and even parents.

"attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which consists of a persistent pattern of abnormally high levels of activity, impulsivity, and/or inattention that is more frequently displayed and more severe than is typically observed in individuals with comparable levels of development. The pattern of behavior usually arises between the ages of 3 and 5, and is diagnosed during the elementary school years due to the child’s excessive locomotor activity, poor attention, and/or impulsive behavior. Most symptoms improve during adolescence or adulthood, but the disorder can persist or present in adults. It has been estimated that 3–7 percent of school-age children have ADHD."

Given the above signs and syptoms of the 'disorder,' couldn't these behaviors ALSO have another predicate?

Now, this disorder is usually treated by Ritalin:

What are its short-term effects?
Ritalin (methylphenidate) is a central nervous system stimulant, similar to amphetamines in the nature and duration of its effects. It is believed that it works by activating the brain stem arousal system and cortex. Pharmacologically, it works on the neurotransmitter dopamine, and in that respect resembles the stimulant characteristics of cocaine. Short-term effects can include nervousness and insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, palpitations, headaches, changes in heart rate and blood pressure (usually elevation of both, but occasionally depression), skin rashes and itching, abdominal pain, weight loss, and digestive problems, toxic psychosis, psychotic episodes, drug dependence syndrome, and severe depression upon withdrawal.

What are its long-term effects?
High doses of stimulants produce a predictable set of symptoms that include loss of appetite (may cause serious malnutrition), tremors and muscle twitching, fevers, convulsions, and headaches (may be severe), irregular heartbeat and respirations (may be profound and life threatening), anxiety, restlessness, paranoia, hallucinations, and delusions, excessive repetition of movements and meaningless tasks, and formicaton (sensation of bugs or worms crawling under the skin).

HUM!

This is exactly what we as a people need to do....WAKE DA HELL UP and stop lettin' those colorless folk tell us what they think is right---what they think we should do.

Just cuz it's WHITE don't make it RIGHT people...the sooner we recognize that the better off we'll be.

I feel you sis. We as a collective need to stop falling in line with our assigned "roles".

However, some folks in the Matrix, don't want to get out, so don't daly to long trying to wake up the dead who want to remain sleep, save the ones you can and keep moving!

Thank you for this post. It is amazing how quickly some parents let a stranger tell them about their own children. Give me a break! We need to ask more questions as a people instead of just following the status quo.

mark bey: If your saying that young black boys/kids are often misdiagnosed you are correct.

But please remeber getting second opinions about your childs mental well being is a responsiblity only parents can truly monitor. If a young boy is placed in special ed because he cant sit still or behavior problems that is a responsiblity of the parents to monitor and to work with the teacher to come up with solutions for. WE should never abandoned our children to the will and wisdom of the school system or teachers who may tell your child they have A disorder that you have never heard of. But of course this is a main theme of your post and that is that parents should not take what teachers or the school system says about their kids without doing their due dillegence and then some to find out what is really going on with their children.

So even though I think you are discounting how many people will swear by those medications, educators and teachers and especially parents will swear that these diagnosis and medications have helped their children.

From a personal point I also think you are discounting things becasue I remember first hand how off the hook my little brother was before he took his ritilan. I also know other people who were the same way before they took their ritilan now remember when little boys start to grow up they began to play basketball and spend large amounts of time away from home engage in physical activies which helps to dissapate the energy.

But once again parents have got to at least do what you did with your son which was challenging the teachers interpretation of things. Its called being a parent which is lacking too often in our communities.

To me the thing you did with your sons teacher is basically parenting 101 the problem is some parents dont have good parenting skills which in all honest makes the situations worse. Imaging the children who are diganosed that way who dont have excellent parents such as yourself they are the ones who fall through the cracks.

If they dont have the skills then they need to get parenting classes as well as mental health classes(phycologist, counsler/memtal health training in counselin etc) to maintain the mental well bieng of the entire african american community. Getting counseling should be something that the entire black community embraces not showing prejudice against mental health treatment and phycological well being.

Sorry JMW but I really think you discount the fact of my little brother who was 100% way past of the hook before he took his ritilan. Eventually he grew out of the ritilan and popular guy.

this is so real...especially as mothers of young black boys.
add might be real...but it is something to me how black boys over represent those in schoold with this "disease"
hmmm....
n eway, i'm not buying the lies.
we (black folk) hate ourselves and one another so much...it is evident everywhere in our society.

it's so sad.

i stand with you my sister and yell to my people...
WAKE UP!!!

This is a hot one!!!!!!
I personally think that some teachers do not know how to teach our black youth, especially the male. I don't beleieve in kids taking alot of strong medication. (this is my personal belief) I do agree that we need to wake-up and smell the coffee because kids today are tomorrows future.

All children are being diagnosed with a disease that was made up by drug companies, as soon as spanking was outlawed. Somebody knew a sure thing. Making money from parents whose children misbehave is inevitable... no matter what color or nationality.
For the record... more white higher income children are prescribed Ritalin... check the statistics!

My son doesn't pay attn either(he's 6) should have seen him playing basketball this year, I think he was Umm.. trying to do blackflips on the court or something, it was hilarious in some ways.. but he is just easily bored, did great in school, BUT.. he is a little comedian and loves attention..

JustMeWriting said...

Hey guys...thanks for all your input. I'm not going to break this up, but I'll touch on a few points made:

1)Mark: hey dude, I hear you on your brother being 100% better after the drugs and because this is personal to you, I'm not going to go too deep, but did you consider the possibility that his behaviors stemed from something else? Children will be busy...they won't pay attention and act out, but that doesn't mean something's WRONG with them.

This disorder is diagnosed BEFORE a child is even 8-years-old and I'm SURE most black people have witnessed the antics of 'OTHER' children being dismissed as..."he's just a child," when we'd have said..."beat his arse." Now, at the same time, I'm not discounting the fact that mental issues DO exist, so every situation is different, but again, we've GOT to pay attention to our children, because if there is a problem nobody else should be able to tell YOU the parent about it...YOU'D be telling them.

Sandy: Welcome and thanks for your input, especially: "All children are being diagnosed with a disease that was made up by drug companies, as soon as spanking was outlawed. Somebody knew a sure thing. Making money from parents whose children misbehave is inevitable." AMEN to that...that's EXACTLY what's going on.

Trust me, I, in NO way limit this thing to Black Children; I was just speaking from my experience and to my people, but you're SOOO right, it's a gold mine and the fact that Parents are allowed to now collect Social Security checks on EVERY child and the schools receive additional funding for have 'disabled' students further perpetuates things...EVERYBODY'S benifiting except the children (in my eyes).

The drug was also said to cause depression and hallucinations, I think that is a far greater harm then the child not paying attention. There was a 13-year-old girl here in Philly who hung herself in the school due to depression, she was on Ritilin. Now, that's not to say that's the ONLY reason, but it certaintly can't be ruled out.

Wish I had came here yesterday to contribute.

I agree with you 100% on this. There are so many people trying to 'beat the system' that yeah...they are even willing to sell their children to get some extra money.

I have seen people damn near beg to have their child diagnosed, so they could (one) get a damn check and (two) have SOMEthing to blame for their child acting out...something other than their inability to step up and teach their child.

Teaching doesn't end in school...unfortunately there are a lot of parents who should NEVER have had children.

This is never a truer post....last year, my nephew's school referred him to some person who told my sister that he had ADHD....and gave pretty much the same reasons as they gave you about your son. They wanted to put him on meds, but cos of his heart complications he had when he was a baby, he had to be referred to hospital for tests and ish. My sister was considering it because she was at her wits end.

In actuality, my nephew was going through some hard times with his dead beat dad who kept walking in an out of his life. So he wasn't concentrating in class, but was angelic at home, and was doing well work wise. Now his dead is firmly no longer in the picture, and routine has been re-installed in his life, my nephew is the model pupil. He contributes to class, and excels in his studies.

Sorry-went off there...but I totally agree with what you've said....and OD's right...parenting doesn't end in school...it should start & end at home!

Tom_Gurl said...

lol-I just re-read what I wrote...and where I stopped at dead in the 2nd to last paragraph- 'beat dad' was meant to be in there-as an dead beat dad.....whoops-my bad!lol

You are always soooo deep LOL

I pray that when I'm blessed to have children I am half the parent that my parents were....I'm gonna be on them like white on rice LOL

op.d: WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN, but I'm GLAD you showed up (you knew I needed you...lol.) I'm always starting something...LOL. Girl, You know I second ALL your words and it's crazy, because just reading the SHORT TERM SIDE EFFECTS should be enought to make the parents slap the teachers for even suggesting such a thing, but like you said...we've got people volunteering their children for it. CRAZY.

diva: LOL... I know, see what happens when I take time off...lol.

tom gurl: "my nephew was going through some hard times with his dead beat dad who kept walking in an out of his life. So he wasn't concentrating in class, but was angelic at home, and was doing well work wise." THANK YOU... that's what I'm talking about. These so-called officials are looking at thing all wrong...most of them don't consider what these children are dealing with at home, not to mention what they're dealing with in school just trying to fit in, but the reason Sandy mentioned...they opt for the lable and treatment road. All these children need is TIME to grown and DIRECTION to learn. (yeah, I cracked up @ 'dead'...I'm like is she saying things are better because the father is dead')

honey: HAHAHAHAH... I know girl, I'm sorry...who wants to hear my rants all the darn time, but I can't help it...lol.

Jazzy said...

What Tom Gurl posted really stands out. There are a lot of Black kids having problems in school because of the problems they have to deal with at home. Fathers aren't there and neither are a lot of mothers since they are too busy trying to stay young and prove they still "got it". Hell even grandparents aren't 'there' for the kids the way it used to be.

It's sad...and REALLY makes me wonder how this next generation will grow up and take care of themselves. When the time comes a lot of them wont be prepared and wont be able to because they now believe what has been drilled into them...that something is wrong with them.

I would not put my child on ADHD medication based on the recommendation of a white teacher. Hell no. I would not even listen to what they were trying to say unless I had observed some of that behavior myself. And if it were a boy child. Hell no.

I agree with you... I know my mama's first cousin was "diagnosed" with ADD but my great-aunt would never give him the medicine and he turned out fine... Has his own business and everything... I dont know.. I supposedly have ADD cuz I have a short attention span but... I never took any medicine and I feel like I'm somewhere around a genius lol.. so.. whatev. I take everything this society tells me with a grain a grain of salt... did i say that right? lol.. I want to be a doctor but I don't even like taking common painkillers... go figure.

Thank You!!! I feel you on this. People are so quick to put their kids on these meds and not really know what they are getting them and their children into. My best friend went through this mess with her son.She listened to the teachers. He was like a zombie on the meds. They had a struggle with the right amount of milligrams of the drug to give to him. It was a mess.

I don't know if your children are attending the public schools here in Philly, but I hear all the time about the teachers telling parents to get their kids tested for A.D.D. It's like it's the norm. It's a shame too because they would rather see a class full of drugged up children rather than dealing with various personalities. I'm fed up with the public school system here, I just wrote about it on one of my blogs.

My friend took him off the meds (thank God), and to me he is just fine.

You should know your children before any one else. If a teacher informs you of such, then as a parent I feel like it's your duty to do your own analysis. Everybody is quick to diagnosis and recommend prescriptions but no one questions it. Good post. Definitely something to think about.

hmmm... i got to call up mom tonight and demand why I wasnt tested for ADD or whatever that is... LOL... hey but its true. intelligence wise people dont see how i cant do well in life, career wise...
but for my level of carelessness, I just live by the day, praying dont get kicked out tomorrow :) honest!
and its not like, i aint doing anything about it. i check double check stuff, and still theres something new thast went wrong....
call it work thats been jinxed..!
hey thanks for this place that helped me rant. usually saying something out helps a lot...
but yeah, i dont approve much of your rascist talk. but then i have no way of knowing the reality there. (i really cant imagine it to be this bad :( )

Thanks guys, for all your input. This is a really serious issue effecting our children's lives. We NEED to pay closer attention to our babies, we SHOULD know what they likes and dislikes, we should ask them how their day was so we can find out if there's something going on in the school...I could be on this issue alll day, but I won't. I actually just read another section of "Why Our Children Hate Us" and there was a paragraph about ADD, so GET THE BOOK... and thanks again for the comments.
