America The Great!

Politics, Religion and Money are said to ruin a friendship or an ELECTION! I could never claim to be a patriot saint (remember I wanted to be a Panther), and I believe in the words of Mr. Hughes: “O, let America be America again-- The land that never has been yet-- And yet must be--the land where every man is free. The land that's mine--the poor man's, Indian's, Negro's, ME-- Who made America, Whose sweat and blood, whose faith and pain, Whose hand at the foundry, whose plow in the rain, Must bring back our mighty dream again.”

The truth is said to set you free, but that only applies when you're NOT me (color that is) – maybe America was NEVER America to me – land of the brave and home of the free! Anyway, I digress, this isn’t about my political views, but lets talk about Mr. Wright’s comments (sermons) and how they’re going to shape this election.

"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Wright said. "We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost."

"The government gives them (blacks) the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

Now, I’m not in a position to really comment on this (I’m still at work – lol) but since this is all the buzz, I’m sure you guys have formed opinions…so let’s hear them!

Well "T" let me say this about that.

As you know I'm coming from the other side of the aisle here. My experience is no where near the same as yours or Rev. Jeremiah Wright's. And there are two things that I hold to be true. Racism lives in America, and I have, and would again, fight for the Good Reverend's right to say what he feels.

I will not take issue with his words other than to say that he is right. He has catapulted himself in the middle of American politics.

But here is my fear. I am a support of Barack Obama, but I will say that as long as these remarks continue, he will never be elected. I know white people, I am one, and most get scared when people start talking like this.

I can take Jeremiah Wrights comments for what they are. A man speaking out against the injustices of America. But you must be careful when you do that. Tough talk on occasion tends to alienate people. People who now rightly or wrongly associate Jeremiah Wright with Barack Obama.

In short, the Rev. can do more to harm to the overdue cause for African-Americans, than he will to improve it.

Again, although I do not agree with the words I applaud him for his message. It's just there are greater things at stake here. And my fear is, like those who spoke out loudly for the young men in Jena, he will disappear leaving nothing gained in his wake.

For those who haven't been keeping up, legal problems continue to plaque the young men.

Senator Obama is walking a tight rope since these comments became public. He has admitted that improvements have been made for African-Americans. He has admitted that White America still has a long way to go to solve racism in America. He has admitted that Rev. Wright's remarks may be a bit harsh, and he has admit that the Rev. still remains his friend.

My fear is, by painting himself in the political picture, the rec. may have just torpedo the man who needs to be President of the United States.

Terry: I LOVE YOU...lol. Your comments are always so on point (even if/when I don't agree - lol).

You're so right on all of this. I had a conversation with a friend yesterday and basically echoed your statment: "I know white people, I am one, and most get scared when people start talking like this."

Fear of the Black Cat (lol) will begin to well up in the stomachs of most white supporters and Mr. Barack will appear to be the proverbial "Spook That Sat By The Door" conspiring to paint the white house BLACK and right or wrong, good or bad...white america will NEVER stand for that.

T.S: LOL... I know it was a bit much. haha!
