"Something within me will always love him no matter what..." It seemed like the thing to say. It seemed like the "right" thing to say. As if I was hopelessly in love. As if I had to love you no matter what. It wasn't true then. It isn't true now."

"I still look in my rearview mirror. I know you are there and I hate you."

"I hate you, Daddy...and that is how it is. That is real. I hate you. My posture is not reactionary. My soul is without torment. I thought it all out. For years I thought about all that I remembered. I though about all I had learned. It wasn't easy to get here, but this is the right place to be. The right mind in which to exist. I'm okay. And I hate you. "

"I've thought about killing you. I've watched you. I've wondered what you are. Why you are. What was your purpose? Is this what you were supposed to do?"

"I could kill you. But I wouldn't shoot you. I couldn't shoot you. I would stab you. This way we could spend some time together. This way we could look into each others' eyes. Maybe we would cry...Maybe we could make up a past, one where we smiled, laughed and loved. Maybe we could lie until you went to sleep."

"I tried to love you. I can't. I tried to understand you. I don't. I tried to move on, but I keep coming back to the same place. I keep coming back to the same reality...I tried to be big. I thought I could go past my feelings, I thought I could push it all aside, look you in the eyes and recognize some indisputable truth, feel some undeniable connection...So I called you. I called you four times. I listened. I waited. I was patient. I was wrong...When I was 12 years old, you killed my mother. I can't love you. I won't love you."

Fuck You
Your son

The above excerpts have been compiled from the book "Dear Daddy: I hate you - Letters to my mother's killer" By Butch Slaughter. You guys may remember me going on about him ALL of last remember "Why Our Children Hate Us - How Black Adults Have Betrayed Black Children."

Unlike the unified-accountability he attempted to place on the adults of the Black community through the text of "Why Our Children Hate Us," this latest work holds only one accountable - his father, for the murder of his mother. Like the previous work of truth, "Dear Daddy: I hate you," is full of enlightening probes rooted around the advancement of the Black community.

"This is a narrative regarding alienation. These are notes concerning seperation, distance and confusion. My personal experience might represent an extreme; not all Black fathers pull triggers. Still, too many fail to defend their children. Too many are the conduits through which the devil does his work."

Advanced copies of the book are currently available in short supply (FOR NOW), but they can be purchased in several bookstores within the Philadelphia region as well as Chicago (author's home town). He's also scheduled to do book signings and lectures in Chicago within the coming weeks (2/21/08), so SPREAD THE WORD!!!

A MOVEMENT is about to take uprising of sorts; He is setting himself to enact a vengence on all those opposing his love for his people and their (our) children and I'd say it's a HATE that's long overdue!!!

Of course I'd like to know your thoughts on what you've read, but more importantly... YOU NEED TO GET THE BOOK!!! BOTTOM LINE!!! Please drop me a note with your city and I'll let you know where you can pick it up.

Wow, i felt that deeply and now wonder if he ever came to find peace in his hatred, or if he ever really forgave his father...i guess i will have to get the book to know more. Did i tell you how glad i am that you are back?

Glad to see u posting regularly again - but my soul can't take this harsh energy right now...may come back when i'm feeling stronger...

Hey JMW!! Welcome back! Gonna look about getting this book Most def!

JustMeWriting said...

Good morning ladies... I know you guys are like...UGH, here she goes with the weighty stuff...LOL. SORRY, It's just a lil (big) something that BEGS for attention. The post and the book are as serious as the situation.

I'm not TOTALLY back, but I'm glad to be here now. I'm moved to pose a question (that I'm adding to the post also), but:

The problem with hatred is that it generally consumes the one who is hating, and often doesn't even affect the person being hated. That of course doesn't directly answer your question, but I would say that because the one who holds the ill feelings is most often the one that suffers most; I'd say hate is over rated. Best to just move on.

Justified - yes. Dwelled upon - no.

I am so with CapCity. The negative energy is a little too much for me. At least for now.

JustMeWriting said...

Sadly, this negative energy is apart of life...and sometimes; for some people it just needs to be faced head on.

Been a LOOOOONG time girl welcome back! We missed you!

Hate is justifiable. However, it takes too much energy to hate. Hating a person wears you out more than anything.

choklateRain said...

Hate is only another form of self expression- human emotion. Good or bad we all lived it, felt it, tasted it and became apart of it. Justifiable or not it's a part of life.

Tom_Gurl said...

Hate is such a strong word...a strong emotion, but I've felt it...the problem is, like Terry said, hate consumes the one hating...there comes a point in life, when one has to release the hate...

So to conclude, yes, it can be justified, it depends on the situation that has caused such emotion...

As harsh as it may seem hate as something that almost always exists in the presence of Love. In that, if you Love your child you'd do whatever to protect them and you'd HATE whatever/whoever posed themselves in opposition of them.

So...where there is true love, hate usually arises. I too agree with Terry and T.G on the possible destruction that hate can cause its host…it can become a tumor within the body, consuming the carrier until it’s all that exist…HATE! Wants to be the final emotion…the encore presenter – a one man/woman show and hate will leave you vacant (if you let it), but I’ve come to believe that it’s very possible to have such strong hate toward a person and “still have enough love for everyone else around you” (Butch Slaughter).

I think it’s our inability or fear of embracing hate that’s made us empty (as a whole society). The hate for inequality is what led Dr. King on his march for freedom. The hate for injustice is what caused Huey and Bobby to form the Black Panther Movement. Frederick Douglas, Malcolm X, Nat Turner, Fred Hampton, W.E.B.D. the list goes on an on…nothing but HATERS; ANGRY, INTELLIGENT, HATERS!!! The hate empowered CHANGE…their hate brought attention to their LOVE.

Hate without a purpose is senseless and useless, but Love, real love without the presence of necessary hate is ineffective.

WOW! That is really all I can say oh and except I'm getting that book!

Hate consumes the mind, body and soul. I really can't see true justification, because hate not only consumes our foe, but ourselves us. Hate also makes more of the situation than is needed, and often causes further confrontation with no room for healing or at least compromise. I'd like to read the book, I'm in Richmond, VA.

Powerful stuff Shug!
There is no way I can put myself in that man's place.

I would like to think I would leave vengence and vengeful thoughts with my Father (for that is His dominion) but I can't say.

I would wrap myself around Jesus' leg and make him walk around with me.

Is hate justified? Yes indeed. Is it a good idea? That is the real question. You can pretty much justify anything to yourself if you are sufficiently motivated. But it is like doing drugs. You can come up with a reason, but it is a good idea to do so?

MysTery said...

Whoa. That kinda scared me...sounds like a murderer speaking.

Anyways, I think it is for a time maybe. Then you have to forgive...for yourself.

I leave a response whenever I appreciate a article on a blog or if
I have something to add to the conversation. Usually it's triggered by the passion communicated in the post I read. And after this article ""DEAR DADDY: I HATE YOU"". I was excited enough to drop a thought :-P I actually do have a couple of questions for you if you usually do not mind. Could it be only me or do a few of these responses look like left by brain dead people? :-P And, if you are posting at other sites, I'd
like to keep up with everything fresh you have to post.

Would you make a list all of all your shared sites like your
linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?
