The Law Against The Law

New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine was released from the hospital today after incurring serious injuries from a car accident some weeks back.

Accident Details: The Governor; his Assistant and his Driver (A State Trooper) were on their way from blah, blah blah (somewhere near Atlantic City),in route to blah, blah, blah (something about a press conference pertaining Don Imus and Rutgers...still blah, blah, blah). The Governor was in the front seat and NOT wearing his seatbelt (infraction #1). (New Jersey’s Seat Belt Law).
In fact, the only person wearing a seatbelt was the State Trooper driver. The vehicle was also traveling 90 mph in a 55mph speed zone (infraction #2), see state by state speed limit table.

CAUSE OF ACCIDENT? "Police believe the crash happened after a Dodge Ram clipped the governor's vehicle when it swerved to avoid hitting a red pickup truck that officials said made an erratic move." (CNN.com)

Now, just in case you didn't know; LAW: a binding custom or practice of a community : a rule of conduct or action prescribed or formally recognized as binding or enforced by a controlling authority. GOVERNOR: Section 1: Executive Power. The executive power of the Commonwealth shall be vested in a governor who shall be responsible for the faithful execution of the laws.
Source: Original provision, unaltered (ratified 1977, effective 1978).
The Governor...fought back tears as he told reporters he planned to work hard to "set the right kind of example to make a difference in people's lives."
"I understand that I set a very poor example for a lot of young people, and people in general," the governor said outside the Cooper University Hospital hospital.
"I hope the state will forgive me," he said.

The Driver of the OTHER Car: Police found the driver of the truck with help from the Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department, surveillance cameras and toll information.
No charges were filed because the driver, a 20-year-old Atlantic County man, was unaware he was involved in the accident, police said. (Oh really now...hum)

This WHOLE incident fueled some serious fire in me, because TOO often we see State, Federal, Government and Law officials make and impose upon the people the very laws they break, with little to no ramification...a mere "I'm sorry" has become sutible.

The Law does not protect itself only it's own; excuses are made, leniencies are instituted where lawlessness abides. I'm not speaking out against the Laws, by any means; they are instated to 'protect and serve' the people, but when and where we Justice show her pretty lil face, her likeness greatly resembles that of the adversary...making the law against the law.

I totally agree. The laws seem to only apply the the person without any clout. But if you know somebody or have a little money...the laws don't apply to you. It is unfair, and the very reason why society doesn't believe in our judicial system.

Yes...that's just what I'm talking about...the injustice within justice. It's crazy, because these things are put right in front of like and we can look but we can't touch. Somethings gotta give, but what and when!!!

thanks for coming by and leaving your mark lady.

"Neither race nor color nor frustration is an excuse for either lawlessness or anarchy."

You left this quote over on acting white. If the rule of law does not apply to those who govern, is that not anarchy?

JustMeWriting said...

YES INDEED E.M. but that's not the way it SHOULD be...thus creating the problem. Race, Color, Gender, Social/Economical background NONE of these should be a factor (in a perfect JUST world) but we know that's not the case...and so of course you're right...it creates a state of anarchy.

Hey JMW, {can I call u that? ;) }
Page 3 of the Philadelphia Daily News says - "New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine has voluntarily paid a $46 fine for violating state law by not wearing a seat belt when he was in his near-fatal car accident…” Apologies for $46 bucks. Wow! VOLUNTARILY :( Is that supposed to make this situation less ass-backwards? What the hell is anyone supposed to do with $46 dollars? I can't even fill my gas tank up with that, lol! When the men and women we elect to practice/uphold/and serve the law, decide to break them instead…..they should at least be held at a higher level of accountability than $46.

WHERE YOU BEEN...LOL. Yes, you can call me that...haha.
Girl, I saw that this morning and what makes it so bad...he had a meeting with the state police and officials and ASKED them to give him a ticket...and they then wrote it out for $46, which he then gave them a check for that amount. Now, I don't drive but I'm SURE the ticket for that violation is more then that, but correct me if I'm wrong.

JMW first of all thank you for visiting my blog and secondly thank you for your support over thier at acting white. Sometimes when I debate people about the things we black folk need to do to improve I start to believe I am crazy especially when some of these folks insist on having a conversation about racism when it comes to changing behavior I believe we have control of that is killing us such as black on black crime.

Also I checked out that website you refered me to and read the excerpts from the upcomming book it was very intneresting.

Have you started reading the book I am interested in knowing what is your oppinion of it thus far.

Lastly thank you for putting me in your blog roll I will add you to mine imediately. Thank you JMW and keep doing your thing. Also there is a black think tank called the AFrosphere were progressive and revolutionary black bloggers are going to try to come up with some solutions that will make a difference in the black world you can check it out here. http://afrospear.wordpress.com/

Ive only been to Philly once but the cheesesteaks are so good it is worth comming to philly alone for the cheesesteaks.

Peace my Philly sista.

JMW You are correct the rich and powerful have different rules than the rest of us. Im trying to figure out why that officer was trying the governer around at 90 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.

Anyway here is the link to the think tank (Afrosphere) I was telling you about. Mark

Hey Mar, you're so very welcome and everything you thanked me for...lol, it was my pleasure and duty, since I've been born with this uncanny inability to hold my tongue...lol. I know what you mean about that crazy feeling coming over you too...it's like when normal becomes abnormal and the question mark is placed on you. I've STILL not gotten the book, but I'm going to order it from the site and I'll be sure to let you know my thoughts.

THANKS for the Afrospear info...I'll SURELY check it out; a place where like-minded folks convene for the betterment of BLACK , is a place I'd like to be.

LOL... dag, everybody who EVER comes to philly ONLY raves about those Steaks...man, I'd betta go get one... hahah. Naw, but next time you come through I'll give you a tour...theres much to love (and hate) lol.

THANKS brother Mark for all your words of wisdom...

@ JMW

" it's like when normal becomes abnormal and the question mark is placed on you."

mark bey: That was an extremely accurate analysis. I think It is a mental disorder seems like these folks would rather have a discussion about racism than about stopping the killing and dying of black people. They desperately want to have a conversation about the man.

YES...I know that's right Mark, we've got bigger fish to fry; our people are killing themselves and we're sitting around talking about EACH OTHER and eating bisquits...ENOUGH!
